I am a newbie to Path FInder, but find the browser to be a powerful, versatile tool! Thank you!

But, after reading the forums, and the Tips and Tricks about replacing the Finder desktop with Path Finder's desktop, I still do not understand what the advantages are for doing so. Aside from a few minor options about removing system icons from the desktop, the configuration options seem very similar.

Could someone please post some reasons and advantages for replacing Finder's desktop with PF's?

Thanks! And I apologize in advance if the answers are obvious and/or posted elsewhere.... I have searched the forums and found HOW to do it, but not WHY.

pf desktop

- drive icons show free and used space
- you can place a trash can on the desktop with contextual menu for every volume trash
- right click on desktop or drives/files give you more options than finder
- icons can overlap each other (ok, this is not a good point)

i don't use any of them and i don't keep files on my desktop.

Does it also free up substantial memory, by not running Finder and PF simultaneously? Is that a big factor?

just noticed it's you again, didn't even check your nickname.
people have come to conclusion that finder is more like a system process than an independent app. many functions (time machine, reveal in, whatever) rely on finder by default so despite it doesn't hurt your computer to quit finder, both apps run together nicely and as long as you have at least 1gb ram on leopard you're safe.

you can check activity monitor. it's quitting pf that actually frees up substantial memory.
