Can't load discs on eMac, please help

Hi,

I just got an apple eMac from a friend at work to give to my Nephew, but, everytime i try to load a disc in it a pop say's

Item's on locked volumes cannot be compressed!!

I have no idea what's wrong with it & really don't have any experience with Mac's.
Can anyone help?

You might try creating a new user account & see if it's doing the same thing in that account. If you do, take a quick look in Login Items in the main account & see if something odd is being loaded on login.

You could also try booting in safe mode (hold the shift key down immediately after you hear the startup chime, and release it after the grey cogwheel starts to spin - could take a while) and see if it still happens.

Just thought of something else: go into the CDs & DVDs control panel & see what, if anything, is selected for default actions on disk insertions.
