Resize to the longest file name Column View

First off - congrats on PF 4.0. Immediately, I dig it lots.

But for the suggestion: One thing I actually liked about winblows 2000 was the column resizing trick. A double click on a column resizer would automagically expand the column to the width of the widest item in that column.

This would be "oh so nice".

Thanks for PF 4 and the PROPER sorting by date modified, new "I won't hog the processor" functionality. Just installed it and can't wait to see what else it has going for it.

You can double-click on the column separators to make them automatically expand to the longest file name in that column.

Sorry Nelio. That doesn't work for me in 4.0. That was the reason for my post.

I just retested it after your reply too and a double click on a column separator does nothing.

yeah, column resizing doesn't work reliably for me either. they do resize upon double-click, but not reliably to the width of the longest name. :-/

the first column (with the volumes listed in it) is most of the times too wide or way too wide. some times too narrow.
most other columns become a little too narrow, so either text is condensed or replaced by … if they don't, they are way to wide to begin with and then become a little narrower with every double-click, until they are a little bit too narrow.

i'm using verdana 9 pt, not antialiased.

WFM. You have to double-click right on the two vertical bars at the bottom of the scrollbar placeholder.

Well, I guess I should have been a little more specific as well.

I am referring to the column separators between the Name, Size, Date Modified, Kind columns.

It would be awesome to allow double clicking on THOSE separators to widen/shrink the column to the width of the largest column + a few pixels in white space.

i was refering to column view columns not working reliably in my post above. :)

apparently, zav was refering to list view. (i didn't get that either until the latest post)
