Hello,

Searching the forums, I read that only one PathFinder license was needed per user, even if one owns several machines. Is it still the case?

Thanks.

i do not believe that this would change but if it has it would be nice to know before i purchase a license. :)

If you are upgrading the price of a couple of beers per machine is “small beer” unless you have a lab in a school to something.
Pay the team for the obvious work they put in to PF4

I'm not upgrading, I'm trying to decide whether I want to buy PathFinder, and the price matters. (As I'm constantly switching from my laptop to my desktop, I would not want PathFinder installed on only one of the computers.)

Believe me even for two lisences it is money well spent....

From what I've read, I believe it's a great program. It's just competing with other programs I want to buy, and in this case it does make a difference.

I'll just wait for an official word about this, and then make my decision. In the meantime, I have 3 weeks to have a good look at it.

I just logged into another account using fast user switching and Path Finder does not require a License for that user. It still claims that it is licensed to me. I would presume then that the software is licensed per machine rather than per user.

This could also possibly be a bug since I have Path Finder replacing the Finder. If you do not use Path Finder this way then I would be curious if you get the same results.

I've searched for terms of use and have not come across anything yet.

We try to be as open and accommodating as possible with our licenses, so it's basically 1 user on up to three systems simultaneously. So as long as it's just you that's using the application, feel free to install it on up to three machines. I'd like to think that's pretty fair - I can't imagine why one person would want to install PF on more machines than that if it was for personal use.

That is more than fair. Just to be able to have PF on my laptop and home computer makes it very handy. Thank you very much.

I have 1 computer and 2 accounts on it. How many licenses do I need to buy?

Neilo wrote that 1 license is for 1 user on up to three systems simultaneously which perfectly fits with the use I make of PathFinder, I find it very fair.
In your case I guess that until both accounts are used by yourself you need only one license ... but since the licensing information is saved into the global /Library folder, thus valid for all accounts on that machine, I don't know how you could not use two different licenses on a single machine.

Just to give you feedback that your policies do pay off, this was persuasive for me to decide for the purchase. This supports the machines I'm constantly using on a daily basis.

- 'Coffee table' Mac mini core duo 1.66mhz - home living room
- Workstation PowerMac G5 dual 2.7mhz - home office
- MacBookPro 15" C2D 2.33 - corporate office and travel

I commend your company for both this 'three seat / one user' license as well as your '21 days of use' rather than '21 calendar days' trial period.

Thank you for being so considerate. It's policies like this that always encourage me to buy such software and support the people behind it. Keep up the great work :)
