What's on your dock right now? You know the drill. And what other mac software that might not be on your dock to you use and love? Having only used macs for a year now, I find it interesting what software everyone else uses. Don't feel obligated to post nearly as much as I did, I just thought I'd kick this off in style. And neilio, I wanna see your dock on here, I don't care if it delays Path Finder 4 into the next millenium. Ok, just kidding, ya'll get back to work :)

My dock?

several of these got me searching on google out of curiousity- it's always fun to find new useful Mac software, particularly freeware/shareware. And I hadn't thought of putting my index.html on my dock. Learn something new every day.

on the dock (default position but auto hidden, i hardly ever use it) L-R:

finder
pathfinder
ical
safari/omniweb/camino/firefox
(any other bizzaro web browser i'm using at any given time)
netnewswire
mail
adium
transmist
itunes
quicktime
vlc
ms word
textedit
photoshop 7.0
preview
cocothumbX - adds image previes to the icons - maybe i won't need this with PF4 (i used pic2icon for the longest time, but this one is a little nicer overall)
stickies
terminal
system prefs

other stuff i love:
quicksilver, quicksilver, quicksilver. www.blacktree.com. if you love awesome mac software (being that you're here i know you do) you owe it to yourself to check this out. it's a launcher, filebrowser, and so much more. i never use the dock because of it, in has built in PF support, and best of all, it's FREE!

liteswitchX - a better cmd-tab. lets you force quit, kill, relaunch, mark for quit, switch to, switch to and hide others, etc. movable and resizable, and isn't huge like the default OS X one is.

dashOnOff - turns off dashboard via a pref pane

butler - another launcher, i dont use it for that, though. i use it mostly to throw things into teh menubar/corners of the screen. another awesome awesome app that you can do tons with, also free.

i used to use winswitch but it's been buggy in 10.4, is now built into the OS, and i have butler managing that anyway.

you control: tunes - puts itunes controls in the menubar, free, way better than synergy IMHO

iscrobbler - just your basic itunes audioscrobbler plugin.

cocoa gestures - adds mouse gestures to any cocoa app (including PF) - very very handy, when I have my pbook on the road, i miss this. it's the reason most if not all of my apps have their toolbars hidden. don't need 'em when i can just gesture:)

NMP3 - rips CDs using LAME instead of the default iTunes ripper. i'm a music nerd.

candybar/pixadex - customizing

fuzzyclock - goes in menubar, reads "twentyfive past two" instead of 1425 (2:25 for the rest of you :) )

imagewell - handy for small image resize/touch up jobs - BUT WHY CAN IT NOT INVERT COLORS?!

I try to keep my Dock pretty clean...I do most of my launching from QuickSilver. Someone else mentioned it, but I will second the fact that it's a great app. I only use it for a launcher, really, but it's quicker at that than Spotlight. Worth a look.

Obviously, Finder (not running) and Path Finder. Then apps that run pretty much constantly: QuickSilver, Safari, Mail, iTunes, iChat. Then Fishpad, a simple Notepad replacement. Then the Calculator.

Then all the apps I keep in the Dock to be able to drag files onto (viewers and media players): TextWrangler (BBEdit a bit watered down, but free!), Preview, VLC (can't live without it!), and QuickTime Player.

That's it for the permanent members of my Dock. Mainly I use it for dragging files onto the aforementioned apps.

But, here are programs I can't do without that don't sit in my Dock:

InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop CS2
Acrobat Distiller (don't ever trust InDesign to export a good PDF!)
FontAgent Pro (I don't like Suitcase, am lukewarm about Font Reserve, and think that FontBook is the devil)
Toast Titanium
USB Overdrive
StuffIt Deluxe
CWM (Classic Window Management) (a life-saving APE module that brings back OS 9-style window behavior)
Audio Hijack Pro (highly recommended; I use it to record shows on Radio 4)
iVolume (Keep your music the same volume level without editing the audio; takes into account iPod's buggy firmware; highly recommended)
Synergy (sometimes bogs down, but I still enjoy it)
Detour (preference pane, now unsupported; can route individual applications to different audio devices and can control volume levels in each app)

Other software I recommend:

Reason (so much fun!)
Amazing Slow Downer (fun and useful)
Transmit
Cage Fighter (Only needs to be used once, but I still recommend it!)
Flip4Mac WMV Player (for QuickTime)

I like the tiny shareware ($8) weatherpop in my "menu" just showing temperature. Its "free version" can be used if you are in USA.

There is the awesome "Earth Browser" too from Lunar Tech.

QuickSilver (Blacktree), iPulse (Iconfactory) and Answers.com small application are great too.

I don't have single clue why "Cocoa Suite" isn't a "hit" on Versiontracker. Perhaps because he gave "too much" for free as "Cocoa Gestures"?

If you like Cocoa Gestures, try Cocoa Suite once (you should uninstall gestures, backup the cocoagestures.ini file) first.

You will share my wonder.

Also a big thank you to its Author since (believe or not) I had no clue about Path Finder before I saw it mentioned in help file!

i've actually switched to xGestures, as it allows global gestures in every app, including carbon apps like finder and itunes. also has support for rocker gestures, and is a bit easier to configure.
