Errors with network drop boxes

I seem to consistently get an error when trying to copy files into another user's drop box located in their Public folder on a network volume. The copy proceeds most of the way before terminating with an error -5000. A file does appear in the user's drop box, but does not seem to be usable. The same copy using the Finder completes successfully without errors, although the Finder gives an alert warning that I will not be able to see the results of the copy.
