Real-time character counter when renaming files/folders

Since there are some times when I want to stay within a 31-character file name limit, it would be nice to have a counter in PF that shows the length of the name as it is being typed. Seems like there is plenty of room in one of the PF window borders--I would not want it to take up more screen real estate. I asked Steve about this a while ago, and he thought it was a good idea, but I'm sure the to-do list is long.

I see no reason why it couldn't be added to the window border at the bottom. To some, a number there won't make any sense, but to those that use it, it will make perfect sense. It won't take up any extra space that isn't already there. Besides, when you are renaming a file / folder, do you really need to know 1 of ?? items are selected?

On a similar topic, though, it would be nice if in the window border it would tell you the total size of all the items you have selected as well. This would make cd creation easier.
