Doesn't seem to be anyway to add comment column in the list view. While I can get to the comment by showing an individual items info, it would be nice to see all the comments at one time.

Thanks!

I think this might actually make a file comment more useful. Don't some browsers put where they downloaded a file from in their comment? Adding a column for this would allow one to view their download folder andsort by url where they downloaded a file :D

Agreed- Would love a comments column- We use Folders with cryptic numbers and all of the actual content names are in the Comments fields- also, I haven't seen any software except Eudora and MSIE running under OS9 that puts "downloaded from:" info in the comments field. What apps do this under X? thx, keltersan

I'll "third" this. Every file attribute should be available in list view. Let the user choose which ones she wants.

Adding comment visibility would be a good option, so I second (or third) that option.
I used to use comments in OS8, less in 9, hardly at all in OS X. Yet they can still be useful for file identification.

On download source location comment data -- I have seen some file downloads put their source url in the comment field, which I think is a great practice. But I don't remember which browser does that (I use 'em all-Safai, IE, Camino, Firefox, sometimes iCab, Omniweb).

Viewing comments in list view would be swell, but the ability to edit them would actually make it useful.

Comments in general are really screwed up in Path Finder right now. The big problem is that Apple has, for what seems forever, not opened up access to comments to third party developers.

You can access them via Applescript, which is how (as far as I know) all of the applications that support comments accesses them. The problem is that Applescript is very, very slow. We've tried using this method to access and edit comments, but it, frankly, sucked big time.

The only applications which have native, system-level access to comments is (natch) Apple's own applications, such as Safari, the Finder (of course), etc.

We know this isn't acceptable, but there's not much we can do if Apple won't open up access. This is the same reason why we do not read the .DS_Store files that the Finder uses to store window settings - another closed, undocumented system.

I would suggest filling a bug report with Apple. The more people who complain about it, the better. Sorry about this!

That'll be particularly ironic in 10.4... able to search comments, but not view or edit them... silly Apple (although I can, to a certain extent, see why they don't document that stuff. I wonder how many changes its gone through as OSX has evolved?)

Has there been any change with this in Leopard?
