Here is a really simple one. I actually chalk this up more as a bug than a suggestion:
I used to have the toolbar display text and icon, until I realized that I don't really need all of that space, and the icon usually tells me nothing (since it is a generic folder icon). I used to drag items into the folders in the toolbar by dragging onto the icon. When displaying as text only, when I drag an item to a folder name, there is no way to place that item into the folder. Pathfinder wants to place the item I drag in the toolbar and not in the folder.

I propose that the name should be included as a drag point for folders in the toolbar (including the text and icon mode). This also helps to aleviate the situation of missing the icon when dropping and accidently placing something in the toolbar by increasing the drop area. This also makes more sense with the rest of the UI, since in the window I can drag to a folder's name and place something in it.

I've noticed that toolbar icons act differently in icon view than in text view. In icon view, if I drag a file onto, say, Word, that file is opened in Word. In text view, the file is added to the toolbar.

I'm almost positive that this is a Cocoa bug. As you probably know, the Finder is still written in Carbon, which is why dragging to a text item works properly.

That said, I'll get the developer to take a peek and see if this is right or not.

I am just noticing that in Pathfinder, you can drag onto the text of a normal folder not in the toolbar (like the hard disk on the desktop) and it will place it into that folder. Also, I can drag to the text of a folder in the shelf an place it in the folder. It doesn't actually try to put the item in the shelf. I think that this is a mild consistency issue. If the toolbar could just use the same or similar functionality as that of the shelf, this might fix the problem with very little effort. Personally I don't need the icons / text to slide out of the way to indicate that what I drag will be added to the toolbar, a simple black or highlighted line between the items like the shelf does is sufficient for me.
