Initiate a search with a selected folder

I'd like to be able to do as in Windows, where you can select a folder, bring up the contextual menu, and select Find to open up a search window preconfigured to search only in the selected folder.

Duh! same here.

I don't understand why Apple (thus PF?) forces you to search only in volumes or predefined locations in their search tool.

Perhaps I'm missing something?

Well, the search box in the toolbar provides your with a simple filename search within your selected folder. While this may not be as flexible as your would like, it does provide a basic searching within your selection. Finder also has the toolbar search.

ecammit, you took the words right out of my mouth. Yep, that's the best way to do highlighted searches (for now) - select the folder and enter the search into the toolbar's search field.
