</echoes of cheezy credit card commercial>
I've got the following items in my toolbar for instant drag & drop access: ABFR, FileShaper, GraphicConvertor, mi, Word, Stuffit Expander and Taco. I decided that I could save some of my precious dock acreage by moving them from the dock to the toolbar. That, and they're valuable pixels closer now.
For that matter, how do you arrange your toolbars? I'm always willing to try someone else's ideas if they work better. Here's my toolbar, left to right:
Back/Forward, Action, Documents (active), Info, Terminal, Eject, Separator, New Folder, HTML, New File, Separator, Copy, Move, Duplicate, Rename, Delete, Flexible Space, ABFR, FileShaper, GraphicConvertor, mi, Word, StuffitExpander, Taco, Flexible Space, Trash, Secure Delete. That's it, gotta keep it short enough to fit onto a Pismo screen.

ABFR = A Better File Rename (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/6322), a batch file naming program. These days I've replaced it with File List (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18487), except that for some reason File List v1.2 doesn't work with Path Finder v4.x
Tapir's own program? Beats me. Could be this (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/19023), I suppose.
And FTR, the toolbar these days looks like this:
Back/Forward
Action
Applications
separator
Terminal
UnRarX (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9365)
Select
Connect
flexi space
EasyFind (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11076)
File List (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/18487)FileShaper (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14081)
GraphicConvertor (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/263)
iTunes
Opera (http://www.wsection.com/pub/opera/mac/852/en/om_en_8.52.dmg)
Safari
Smultron (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15114)
TextWrangler (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11009)
VLC (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/5758)

I don't use the toolbar - I have it collapsed and use LaunchBar to launch applications, MoRU for Searching and PathFinder for file management. In an ideal world, Pathfinder would support searching on Tags, and then I wouldn't need MoRU. Any chance this might happen?

I find it handy to have frequently-used apps in the toolbar. For instance, I use Smultron to write html, css & javascript. Instead of using right-click --> "open with", I can just click & drag an html doc onto Smultron's toolbar icon. Granted, I could drag it onto the Dock icon, but I don't use the dock - I've got it set as small as it'll go and auto-collapsed on the right edge of the monitor, out of the way.

One thing I have in my toolbar is a great script I glommed from flip. I like having two browser windows open and this script will align them for me on the screen. flip's script is on this thread

We're talking about the toolbar of Pathfinder-Windows, right?
Tip: make a Desktop-Printer. Drag this in the toolbar of your Finder/Pathfinder -windows. Then pull the icon on desktop in the Dock.
Clean desktop, rapid printing out every window and/or the Dock.

I would like to use the PF toolbar to put some frequently used apps, but I find it few usable for this purpose because when I drag a file/folder over there the target app's icon tends to slide to make room for the dragged item (as if I would add the dragged file/folder to the toolbar), unless i drag it precisely over the appropriate toolbar icon.
I use instead a dedicated shelf in "icon mode" where I keep the following apps:
DropDmg
File List
DS_Store Cleaner
AppZapper
Pacifist
IconCompo
Youpi Optimizer
DropStuff
StuffIt Expander
StuffIt CM Dropboxes folder
HexEdit
ToastMount
QuickTime Player
VLC
I have this shelf always visible because I keep it in the lower side of the floating shelf window, with a 70% opacity

... it's like having a second dock.

I set up folders with apps I don't use very often in that line below the toolbar. My main apps are down in the Dock but there are some I need maybe once a week or less and had to go search for them. So I made alias' of all those apps and put them by category, WEB, GRAPHICS, UTILITIES with about 5 or ^ apps in each.
Using the alias' means I don't have to move the apps out of the Applications folder or create folders within Apps folder. If I just clicked on the entire Apps folder in the top menu there are so many it's hard to find anything.
But now I have three layers of need. Those used often are in the Dock, second most often have individual icons in the toolbar, and those very seldom used are in the folders in the bar:

Nice, but always a cluttered desktop.
Grrr, such secondary Windows don't work with "sticky Windows" (www.donelleschi.com). Normal Pathfinder-Windows works.
