Howdy,

Just a suggestion, but I actually kind of like the way the Finder handles the skip/replace issue when copying/moving files (the 'Apply to All' check box). An example of a case where this is extremely helpful - I accidentally dragged a couple hundred files from one folder into another, where it turned out I already had dragged said files at some point. Unfortunately, I was then faced with the prospect of clicking 'Skip' 164 times (or force-quitting PF, which is what I did, of course).

Anyway, just a thought. As always, many thanks for the wonderful product...

I'm sure that this is already on the infamous 'TO DO' list. If it isn't, it should be added there. I have found myself having to force quit in a similar situation. Also, possibly to extend this a little farther, you could have 2 radio buttons, one for 'Apply to all' and one for 'Apply to all files of this type'. Selecting the later will automatically apply your choice to all files of the same type as the current file that it is prompting about. It would then prompt for the next file conflict of a different type. If 'Apply to all' is selected later on a different type, however, it will not override any specific type decisions that come before.

This would allow me to be able to replace one folder with another, replacing everything, while leaving ,say, '.gif' images alone. I would simply hit 'Replace' manually until the first gif image came up. I would then hit the 'Apply to all files of type '.gif'' and hit 'Skip'. Then the next file that came up for replacing, I would select 'Apply to all', and hit replace. After that, it would not prompt again, but continue replacing everything except files ending in '.gif'.

Also,
while on the topic of replacing files, I wish that there was a separate option for replacing a folder over the top of another, so that it doesn't erase the contents of the original folder, but adds the new folder's contents to the old folder.

For example, I have folder 'A' containing 'file1', 'file2', and 'file 3'. I also have another folder 'A' containing 'file 3', 'file 4', and 'file 5'. What I would like is another option that when I drag the second folder 'A' to the location of the first folder 'A', the result is a folder 'A' that contains 'file 1', 'file 2', 'file 3', 'file 4', and 'file 5'. In this case, 'file 3' whould be from the second folder 'A'. I am not certain what you would call this sort of replacing. Possibly 'append' instead of 'replace'? Windows currently has this behavior if you are looking for a working model. That is their regular replace, however. I would see this as something that could be recursive as well.

Good news:

Sorry for the French, but I'm too lazy to switch to my English user to do the screenshot. I'm sure you get the gist. :)

In PF4, due... reasonably soon.
