Hi
It would be really cool if there was a way to make icons in the shelf larger. At the moment they are 16x16 pixels, which is find is very small. Even the Finder's sidebar, which has very similar functionality, uses 32x32 icon size.

Compare the tiny shelf list to the sidebar in Finder (Panther). There's a lot of empty space in that shelf that could be used for larger icons.
I love Pathfinder and trying it out for the past couple of weeks. Larger icons in the shelf list could really work!

I actually prefer smaller icons / text for my shelf. I usually can't fit enough, and even at 1600x1200, I can still read the 9pt text.

Notice the icons / text are smaller in the column view.
To each his own.

I agree that the text is always going to be readable, however, the point of using icons is that they are instantly identifiable, at a glance. This means it's often unnecessary to even have a text label for each. The toolbar for instance uses 32x32 icons. This is probably why there's the option of using icon view only. At that size, the icons are recognisable immediately, saving the need for text descriptions.
If you apply this same principle to the shelf, and use larger icons, there is a good chance you can also turn off the text labels for them, saving yourself some screen space. 16x16 icons are sooooo 1995. C'mon, it's 2004, where screen resolutions of 1600x1200 are almost the norm. Let's make use of our high res displays
Incidentally, one wonders (re: your screenshot) why you would use such a small window size when you could surely make it larger since your display is 1600x1200? Pathfinder has been designed so using multiple finder windows is almost a thing of the past. Bigger icons, bigger windows :!:

If you do as many things as I do at work and have as many windows open in other applicationas as I do, you, too would be scrounging for space. In fact, have 2 19" monitors at 1600x1200, and still do not have enough space (thank god for expose). I also do not really have the time to make cutesy icons for the hundres of folders that I have to go through daily. I often don't work with something long enough to actually need a unique identifier for it. To me, an icon is just wasting space. All it really does for me is identify what type of file it is. A small icon with name is usually better to identify something in this fashion.
If I had included the rest of my window, you would realize that it extends for about 5 columns. 5 columns! you might exclaim, but if you realized the depth of the folder structures I deal with (not my choice), you would understand. Also, the shelf on the left contains the "Standard" shelf items. I only switched to this shelf to not get in trouble for showing critical names. I create a new shelf for each project that I am working on. Each shelf usually contains about 12 or more items ( the names are usually longer -- hense the wasted space after the names right now ). I would like to be able to fit everything without having to scroll, therefore, smaller. Any common folder I usually go to that isn't project specific goes in the toolbar. Also, if you notice, I removed the icons entirely from the window's toolbar--another space saver.
I see no reason why PathFinder shouldn't be able to accomodate both of our preferences.

We trying to get the final release for Path Finder 3.2 out quickly, as it's been a while since we released an update, and there are some outstanding issues that this release fixes (most notably the crash when using the old Connect to Server window - an OS X bug).
A truckload of configurability for the interface is coming, more probably in the next version after 3.2.
