View Full Version : PF 3.1 on Panther - Performance Change

I recently upgraded from to Panther and at the same time installed PF 3.1. It seems to me that PF is noticably slower on Panther than it was on 10.2.8. I'm wondering it anyone else has had similar experiences.

Also, I have noticed that in a List View, expansion and contraction does not always work on the first click. Sometimes I have to click more than once and sometimes having clicked once and gotten no result I will click a second time, at which point the list will expand and then contract itself in rapid succession.

Anybody else experienced this behavior?

That's strange - you should have actually have seen a performance increase wht moving to Panther, as the OS's Cocoa system is much more optimized than in OS 10.2.

I also haven't seen or heard any complaints from users regarding the list view columns problem you mentioned. Did you install Panther as an upgrade, or was it a clean install?

If it was an upgrade, you might want to try deleting the Path Finder preferences and seeing if that fixes things. Repairing permissions and deleting system caches wouldn't hurt, too.

Preferences are located:

/Users/<your user name>/Library/Preferences/com.cocoatech.pathfinder.plist

Let me know if this doesn't fix things for you!

Yes, that had been my own expectation, yet honestly it does *feel* slower to me - though I suppose it's possible that PF just seems slower because everything else feels faster (than it did under Jaguar).

Still, the list view problem is strange and really irritating. And I have test clicked successively for several minutes just to convince myself that it was an actual problem and not bad aim on my part. :)

I decided to go with a fresh install, so preferences and system caches should not be an issue

I can confirm that the list view thing does happen at times. My suggestion for a solution is to learn to love the column view, but what do I know? (Except that NeXT rocks, always has, and still does..)

I've noticed that Path Finder can be extremely slow when creating a new window. It takes at least 3 seconds or so to pop up a new window after clicking the application icon or using File -> New Browser, whereas the Finder seems to create it instantly.

I'm glad to hear that someone else has experienced the same problem with the list view. Well, not glad, but you know...

I hope we can get some feedback on it, it's a real annoyance.
