View Full Version : No PathFinder Windows after Security Update

I applied Apple's latest security update at the weekend. After restarting I couldn't get a PF window. The File->New->(New Folder, New File, New Terminal) commands work, but New Browser doesn't quite work. The odd thing is that right click on the PF icon in the Dock shows that PF thinks it has some browser windows open; they just don't display. Cmd-W even closes them.

I've tried both reinstalling PF, and restarting my machine, but neither helped.

I also emailed a problem report to support, but I never got a reply from them. Is anyone listening? Has anyone else experienced this wierdness?

Hi there -

Sorry if I missed your support email - I do try to reply to every single one, but sometimes one slips under the radar.

I haven't received any reports of this happening to other PF users, nor have I seen this myself on the four machines I have PF running on. I know everyone says this, but have you tried rebuilding permissions? You could also try switching to a new user and seeing if it works then; that would mean some kind of corrupted preferences or cache files.

You could then try moving the com.cocoatech.pathfinder.plist file located in your preferences folder to the desktop and restarting Path Finder. This will force PF to create a new pref file. This might get things working again.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help you track this down!

Hurrah! It's back. I tried moving the plist to the desktop and PF created a new one, but still didn't display a browser. After deleting both the old and new plists PF restarted with a nice clean shiney browser. :D

By the way, it showed a browser using a different login.

Thanks fr the help,

Neil
