View Full Version : Connect crashes Path Finder

When I choose "Connect to Server" from Path Finder's "Go" menu, I reproducibly get a "Path Finder has unexpectedly quit" dialog. The Path Finder window remains on the screen and the icon remains in the dock, but the beachball spins continuously until I force-quit Path Finder. I'm running the current versions of Path Finder and Panther. I see this problem on both my G4 TiBook (connecting via airport) and on my dual-1MHz G4 desktop computer (connecting via wired ethernet). It makes no difference whether the Finder is running or not.

I would recommend trying to repair permissions and dumping system caches. I've heard about this crash before, and I had it for a bit, but running a maintenance application like Cocktail (http://www.macosxcocktail.com/) made everything right again.
If this doesn't help, post back here and we'll try some other things.

Hm. I'll pass this on to Steve for more investigation. I can't reproduce this here, or on my other two test machines (connecting to smb, afp), but Steve might know more.

Unfortunately, it's a bug in the OS, which apparently won't be fixed until 10.3.3. This is what Steve said:
The connect to server window is part of Carbon. That code crashes. I think it only crashes when you double click the server icon. URLs work fine. There may be a way of avoiding the crash by clicking the icon once and then hitting return.
Sorry, guys. I do know that 10.3.3 has been seeded to developers and is in testing right now, so it shouldn't be too far off...
