I'd like the option to have them slide into the main window, instead of out from it. Treat them like the standard Drop Stack/Shelves pane. In the case of the Volumes/Processes tab, it'd nudge the Drop Stack/Shelves to the right enough to clear; the terminal & preview tabs would appear/disappear the same way the Drop Stack/Shelves pane does.
