A couple of wish-list items for themes:
Being able to make & save custom themes.
Have a check-mark/highlight/something to indicate which theme is selected.
Move the themes from the View menu to their own preference pane, w/previews.
Row separators on the shelf, like in List and Column views.

That's on the to do list - possibly in the next release, but definitely in a future one. Your other requests are also mostly on the list of things to add; there's lots on there, but this is something that is planned for improvement.

Sounds like one hell of a to-do list. Just out of curiosity, is the list available?

Not yet. :)
I'm still trying to organize all of the various requests for features and bug fixes into some kind of roadmap. Steve and I will probably start getting some kind of list together which we'll post to the site as a very loose idea of what's to come.

One of the most interesting things about NeXT (and about GTK+'s Glade) is that the interfaces are available in a format that they can be edited by someone who is willing to tinker with them.
If given the opportunity, I would probably rearrange the browser window significantly--making the columns a little wider by default and swapping the drop target and the volume list would be a start, but that mostly just puts things I use most where I can use them most easily.
This can be done already, of course, but not in any way that could possibly be saved across versions or tried by others who might want to see if they prefer it to the default.
