Hi,
I just installed 3.1 and it won't launch because I 'replaced' 3.0.1 I now have nothing. No Pathfinder. I miss it already. Please help.
Thanks,
John G :?:

Because Path Finder 3.1 hooks into APIs and other feature that are present in Mac OS 10.3 only, the system requirements have changed and 10.3 is now essential.
I'm not sure how Steve wants to work this, but for now the previous version is still available for download. You can get it here:

Isn't it a little early to be throwing out support for Jaguar. Color me very disappointed.

It *does* seem a little early to dump jag support.

Developing on OS X is not simple. Lots of OS features are either buggy or incomplete, and they require lots of effort to get working properly.
Dealing with bugs in the OS is very time consuming and not fun. I would rather put all my efforts in to creating new killer features than fixing bugs in the OS. Plus, all the effort that I put in fixing OS bugs gets thrown out once everyone switches to the latest OS release.
I know the transitions are painful, but in the long run, everyone is better off if I spend my time working on new stuff than working around old bugs in older versions of the OS. I did the same thing when 10.2 shipped and some people were pissed, but that's what allowed the program to be where it is now. If I tried to support 10.1, 10.2, and 10.3 Path Finder would not be near as cool as it is today.
Buy 10.3 or find a friend that has the disks. Every application will work better and you will be better off.

I'm sorry, but that's a pretty pathetic excuse. You really should warn potential users that you only support the latest operating system. How verry Apple of you. I registered not too long ago and its for nothing it seems. Bugs that are plaguing 3.01 with continue to be bugs that plague 3.01. Gee, thanks.

That's the way life is. When you bought the app it worked in Jaguar. Now that Panther is out it still works in Jaguar. I definitely want Steve focused on improving it for the latest/future OS. Not wasting time fixing various bugs to support older OSes.

Donny, there are warnings on many places throughout this site about 1.3 requiring Panther. Where did you get 1.3 that did not warn you? This is the problem that needs fixing here.
Steve, perhaps you may consider following Apple's lead by checking to see if the user is running Panther before installation? I know you're not using an installer currently because it's not really needed, but it might save someone who somehow missed the warnings (or didn't bother to read them..)
