View Full Version : Mounted drives stop appearing in Path Finder

Perhaps this is a Panther bug, but after my system's been running for a few days, mounted drives (like Fileservers or CDs, or DMGs) no longer appear in Path Finder's drive list (nor in its top-level view). Yet, they do appear in Finder as normal, and they work from the command line, and 'mount' lists them too. Restarting Path Finder does not fix this.

Possibly relatedly (though this certainly happened in Jaguar, and before Path Finder 3 even) if I mount and unmount a whole lot of removable disks, Path Finder tends to get confused and gives the wrong name to the drives in the list. Typically I see this manifest as an 'off by one' sorta thing, where I'll put in a new CD and Path Finder will label it with the name of the previous CD/Disk Image I was using, but it's sometimes less predictable than that.

You know I've noticed this too, but thought it was just me. I had an experience recently where I couldn't get a USB drive to mount (show) in Path Finder while it showed up fine in the Finder. I had to logout/login to get Path Finder to work correctly.

Steve knows about this bug; I believe he may have licked it for the next release, which is due sometime next week.

I had the same problem, only the problem was with FInder 10.3. My Compact Flash wouldn't bee seen in Finders Mounted Volumns window. However, I was able to see it in 'Path Finder'

This looks like it may be partially attributed to a OS 10.3.1 bug. There's a post on MacOSXHints today that has a fix for at least some drive mounting problems.

Read about it here:

I don't believe that to be related, at least not to the problem as I reported it. It's happened on 10.3.0 as well, and it's not that they don't mount (nor is it restricted to images), they just fail to show up in PF (although if I use the Go menu I can force it to navigate the drives using /Volumes/Name)

The second problem in the original report has been happening since Path Finder 2, and since Jaguar. That one's simpler though since just restarting PF fixes it.

In fact, the mounting problem seems to be older than Panther, because I observed it 2 months ago while I was (still, Luddite Wacko that I am) running 10.2.5
