At least, I get php errors (can't create file) when I try and upload one. And giving a URL just silently fails, which isn't right.
Any ideas?

Mine seems to work. Perhaps yours is too big?

it's a 50px square 2kb gif.
These are the errors I get.
Warning: Unable to create './images/avatars/1419968475407438883a5ab.gif': Permission denied in /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/forum/includes/usercp_avatar.php on line 227
Then a couple errors about 'unable to send headers', but that's because of the error message.

Highly possible that write permissions on the avatar folder got turned off.

Yes, I'd figured that out. Mostly I'm just trying to let someone know, and to fix it, or put a message on the avatar upload (this is turned off.).

Hi there PF team,
I was wondering if it would be possible to get some RSS news feeds set up at cocoatech.com?
News and the weblog maybe?
If such a thing already exists where can I find them

What newsreader are you running? You should be able to just copy the URLs of the things you want to subscribe to and the newsreader should auto-discover the feed links.
At any rate, here's the direct URLs for the feeds. We've been pretty sucky about updating the main Cocoatech weblog lately, though I promise to post more.

What newsreader are you running?
Newsfire but I'm thinking of switching, when I pointed it at cocoatech.com it didn't find anything.
Admittedly it is only at v0.5.
Thanks for your help

I just wanted to let people know, esp because the message in the Announcements board dosen't say, that you can get the RSS feeds for specific fora by putting the forum number after the RSS feed url.
Like so
http://www.cocoatech.com/forum/rss.php?f=2
would give you the RSS feed for the Announcements only.
best

Thanks Trevis! I didn't know you could do that with the RSS plugin.

In what time zone is this support forum based? The reason I asked is because the time here in Dallas is 3:05 PM CST, and when I arrived at the Cocoatech Support Forum Index page, the page showed "The time is now Tue Dec 20, 2005 12:05 pm", which is a three hour time difference. Just wondering....

Where the support server doesn't matter. When you registred you should have stated what time zone you are in. Therefore everyone shows the correct time.
You can fix that in the "Profile" option once you are logged in. Near the bottom of the page it will ask what time zone you are in using GMT. I know the Mountain time zone is GMT -7.
So I'd imagine that you being in Dallas you are GMT -6.

Hey Neilio-
I noticed that this board has been getting lots of spam-bots signing up. I recently had to fix a similar problem on my boards (which is probably why I noticed it here). You should upgrade to PHPBB 2.0.19 and turn on visual confirmation and the option to throttle login attempts. It only took me 15 minutes to do all the upgrades.
Of course, only if you care about the spam-bots....

Hi, Damaget - thanks for the heads-up. I didn't realize we were getting a lot of spambot signups as I haven't seen any actual forum posts that were spammy... but I've turned on visual confirmation anyway.

How about setting the focus to the Username text box once the user arrives at the log in page rather than having to click in the text box?

Could you add a tag like the following <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="Subscribe to weblog" href="http://www.cocoatech.com/weblog/index.rdf" /> within the header of the forum's template. Doing so will cause Firefox's orange and Safari's blue RSS icons to appear, thereby making it easier to subscribe to the feed. You can have one such tag for each feed.
I'm not certain if the type should be something other than "application/rss+xml" for an .rdf feed, but I think "rss+xml" is OK. Anyone?

I'm sorry for this stupid question, but I just noticed this Johnny-come-lately phrase above my name and wanted to ask what does it mean?
I looked in the English dictionnary - and it says a "newcomer". Though I noticed it's added to people who had posted more than 50 posts. So I'm confused... :)
Nothing to do with PF4...

Yeah, I think Neil should change the monikers and post levels for them in the BB setup, considering that there are only 6 of us who qualify as "Johnny come lately" and 1 person who gets the "Getting settled in" label. :)

Very nice indeed! Two remarks, though:
1. In the previous forum each message showed its id (in the header), and right-clicking on it allowed to copy the url of that message. This doesn't seem to be possible anymore. Any way you can restore that feature?
2. I personally find the post icons not contrasted enough. I mean the green pin looks very much like the blue one, to me. I would find it handier if the green pin was red, for example.
Except for these details, the new forum is great!

If I've "lost it", I apologize up front, but I don't see anywhere how I can change the skin that displays within the forum from Graphite to Aqua. Can anyone offer any pearls of wisdom?

Weird, I remember it was at the bottom of the main page of the forum, and also somewhere in User Control Panel, but I don't see it anymore either. Maybe upgrade to vBulletin 3.6.4 removed it somehow?? Anybody found it?

Seriously, I am not (I think) mentally challenged or visually deficient but it took me three tries to actually manage to read the captcha on the registration page.
I know this does keep the bots out but it's really becoming difficult for us humans too.!

Sorry about that, but there's not much we can do, it's vBulletin forum software thing and I don't think it has a preference or something to make it easier.

Earlier today I saw a post about a problem using the application Cocktail with Finder deactivated. A few hours later I thought I should check the date of the post to see if it was old, therefore the problem probably fixed by now.
When I searched for Cocktail, nothing was found. I finally did manage to find the thread (http://forum.cocoatech.com/showthread.php?t=2144) but why doesn't it show up during a search?
Well, it got me to register anyway, just to post this.
Actually, I have an upcoming post with some complaints about PF, which I've been using for a few days now, so I knew I'd have to sign up anyway.

Weird -- I'm not sure why the search didn't work for you. When I search on cocktail I get a bunch of hits, including this thread:

Did you search before you registered? Search seems to be disabled for non-registered users (we should change this I think).
Rebel
Feb 28, 2007, 09:54 AM
Yes, I searched before registering. A search for cocktail while not logged in takes you to the advanced search page, but provides no results
http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/2531/searchforcocktaildf0.jpg.
Today I logged in and tried it and it worked fine. I see no good reason to restrict searching to registered users.
. The link Neilio provided (http://www.cocoatech.com/forum/search.php?searchid=16805) is useless. It goes to a page that says http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/118/sorryzb2.jpg
This happens even when I'm signed in.
